Northern Railway (NR), which is developing Bahadurgarh railway station close to capital city Delhi, will use solar energy to power its daily operations.
The technology may be rolled out to other stations in the division if the pilot scheme at Bahadurgarh is successful.
The funding for the project has come from Indian Railways’ finance arm, the Indian Railway Finance Corporation Ltd (IRFC).
As well as solar energy, the station has also developed a water harvesting system.
NR will be installing solar panels on station building and other parts of the stations to source solar energy.
“Solar power panel with a capacity of 20kw will be installed at the station within the next two months,” a senior Northern Railway official said.
He added: “The power generated from solar will power platforms, circulating area, booking office and the service buildings.”
Bahadurgarh city will be connected with Delhi Metro in future and currently lies 19 km from the capital.
Thirty-two-thousand people currently travel through the station each day – a figure which is likely to increase with the pace of development in the area.
Railways is also emphasising on conserving power, like installing LED lights at station building, circulating area and at the platforms, that will drastically reducing the power consumption, thereby saving revenues.
That’s very good technology to harness power like this. Hope more countries will implement this innovative SDF. Here are more details & images i found this information in detail: http://www.railway-technology.com/features/feature-energy-floors-russian-railways-harness-passenger-power/
