Amtrak launches ‘Ask Our Expert’ for passengers

Listen to this article

The first in a series of videos featuring Amtrak experts answering questions submitted by passengers via social media outlets is now posted online as part of the company’s new ‘Ask Our Expert’ program.

Al Engel, Amtrak vice president of high-speed rail, answered questions about high-speed rail submitted on Facebook and Twitter. His videotaped responses can be viewed on the Amtrak YouTube channel.

The ‘Ask Our Expert’ program is designed to provide passengers and the public with a platform to ask questions about Amtrak and to have those questions answered by various subject matter experts within the company.

Engel responded to numerous questions from Facebook fans including:

  • “What counts as high speed?”
  • “Why not extend high-speed rail south of D.C.?”
  • “What’s being done in the immediate future to speed up the Acela?” and
  • “When will this country finally move to a real intercity rail infrastructure similar to the Bullet or ICE high speed rail trains?”

Potential topics for future ‘Ask Our Expert’ videos include ‘AmtrakConnectsm’ WiFi service, food and beverage services, environmental initiatives and insight into life as a conductor.

Topics and a specific time for accepting questions will be posted on Facebook and Twitter.

  1. Amtrak, JTA, and CSX…Trains, Freight and Passengers, I know we are getting closer than just shovel ready, to new and better transportation needs being met.   There are tons of obvious reason, cleaner environment, jobs, take the congestion off the roads, inner connect our local and long haul passenger needs.   You know that old saying; it’s the little things in life that mean the most!  I can’t stress enough how important it is for us as U.S. citizens to be able to inner connect with our communities again.  Bring back that home town feeling, put down the phone and interact with people again, we are a caring nation.  When you commute it gives you an opportunity to relax, leave the driving up to someone else.   Before you know it you are relaxing, reading, making new friends, your commuter buddies.   Free time gives you time to do so many things, the list is endless, write a book, and balance your checkbook.  Our fast pace life style has made us appear thankless, almost an arrogant air of assuming we are deserving.

    • Ok Kathy,  remember to pick-up your  check this month…..but “jobs” was supposed to be the first reason listed this time….pay attention at the meetings !!  Shovel ready is no longer polling well…
