Train excursion company, Pathfinder Tours, based in Stroud, presented £2,500 to Gloucestershire & Warwickshire Steam Railway (GWR) at Winchcombe Station on Thursday, 7th July.
This sum, which included two generous personal contributions, had been raised through raffles held on train excursions run by Pathfinder Tours between February and June this year.
This all started as a result of suggestions from the GWR based ‘Growler Group’, that passengers on the Pathfinder trains might like to contribute to the GWR Emergency Appeal.
This funding is urgently required by GWR to repair damage to their track caused by a serious landslide earlier this year.
Alan Bielby, Fund Raising Coordinator and Project Director for GWR, said:
“While we have made significant progress towards our target of £1m to repair the embankments at Gotherington (now complete) and more recently at Chicken Curve, we still have a long way to go and the amazing £2,500 that Pathfinder’s customers have so generously given will take us a step closer to that goal.”
Peter Watts, General Manager of Pathfinder Tours commented:
“We are delighted to be able to assist our local preserved railway and very grateful to all our customers for their wonderful support.”
