Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded Woh Hup Limited a $144 million contract to build Woodlands South station on the city’s Thompson Line.
The station, which will be completed in 2019 to coincide with the opening of the 30-kilometre Thompson Line, will serve the Woodlands South area, in particular providing improved rail links for students at the nearby Singapore Sports School, Christ Church and Woodgrove Secondary Schools.
The new automated north-south line will be entirely underground, travelling from Woodlands North through Singapore’s central districts to Gardens by the Bay.
Woh Hup will start work on Woodlands South station later in the year having already built four stations for LTA.
Last month, the LTA awarded construction and tunnelling contracts worth $706 million to Samsung C&T and Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co.
The contract includes boring a tunnel between Woodlands station and Woodlands South.
