Passenger revenue has increased to record levels in the first quarter of 2013-14, a new report has found.
New data from the Office for Rail Regulation (ORR) has shown that rail usage in Britain has “steadily increased” over the last 10 years.
Passenger revenue increased by 7.3 per cent in Q1, reaching £2.02 billion – the highest quarterly revenue figure on record.
The report also found that passenger journeys had risen by 7.3 per cent on last year to 385.2 million.
Franchised passenger kilometres also hit record highs in the first quarter of 2013-14, increasing by 3.6 per cent to 14.8 billion.
New services also helped boost the figure for non-franchised passenger kilometres, which rose by 20.8 per cent on last year.
