Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) has been awarded a Rs 442.52 crore (€52 million) contract to build a tunnel and two bridges along the Dharam and Qazigund section section of the Kashmir Railway.
The contract, which was awarded by IRCON International Ltd, includes a 5.1-kilometre tunnel and the construction of two new bridges, 445-metres and 346 metres in length, along the Udhampur – Srinagar – Baramulla line.
HCC has said the structures will take four years to complete, following on from the inauguration of the 11.2-kilometre Pir Panjal Tunnel, which was also built by HCC, connecting Kashmir Valley to Banihal town in June 2013.
As well as the Pir Panjal tunnel – India’s longest railway tunnel – HCC is also currently constructing a 10.2-kilometre tunnel between Sumber and Sangaldan stations.
