TramForward has welcomed the decision of Edinburgh City Council to review its recent decision to terminate the Edinburgh Tram at Haymarket and to now re-extend and terminate the line at St Andrew Square (York Place).

TramForward said that terminating the line at Haymarket made ‘no commercial sense’ and the extension will allow passengers to reach the major traffic objectives of Princes Street and Waverley Station directly without either changing to bus or walking.

The extended line will form the basis of an integrated transport service for Edinburgh and will facilitate future extensions to the system.

When the line opens, Edinburgh ‘should take advantage of its temporary surplus of vehicles to provide the highest possible frequency of service to stimulate demand’.

Modern trams will offer a ‘frequent, fast, environmentally friendly and efficient service’.
