STB authorises phase two of California high-speed rail line

Listen to this article

The United States’ Surface Transportation Board (STB) has approved the construction of the second phase of California’s planned high-speed rail line.

Subject to certain environmental conditions, the 114-mile segment will connect Fresno and Bakersfield.

On August 13, the California High-Speed Rail Authority appointed Arcadis to provide design and construction oversight for the first 65-mile section between Fresno and the Tulare-Kern County line.

The high-speed train service is expected to transport passengers from Los Angeles to San Francisco in around two hours and 40 minutes. There are hopes to eventually extend the line to Sacramento and San Diego.
