Stadler has delivered the first two FLIRT electrical-multiple units (EMUs) to Hungarian operator GYSEV Zrt.
The new vehicles, which make up half of a €20 million order, will operate on the Sopron–Szombathely–Szentgotthárd railway on the Hungary-Austria border.
The trains were presented in Sopron by Zoltán Dunai, country manager of Stadler, to Zsuzsa Németh, Hungary’s Minister for National Development, Ilona Dávid, GYSEV chairman, and Szilárd Kövesdi, GYSEV chief executive.
Having been delivered 60 days early and with certification to operate in Hungary already acquired, the new units are set to go into operation ready for the new timetable on December 15.
Almost HUF 50 billion has been spent reconstructing the Sopron–Szombathely line and upgrading the Szombathely–Szentgotthárd line, which has increased the line’s maximum speed to 120 km/h.
Although the car bodies were manufactured in Hungary, final assembly of the trains was actually carried out in Siedlice, Poland.
