Swietelsky Bau GmbH has been awarded a €104 million contract to deliver the second package of works to construct the ‘Wolf’ access shaft of the Brenner Base Tunnel (BBT) in Austria.

The Wolf II package will complete the 4-kilometre access tunnel for which excavation work began on December 4.

The €8.6 billion Brenner Base Tunnel (BBT) at 55 kilometres will be the second-longest rail tunnel in the world, behind the Gotthard Base Tunnel, once complete in 2025.

The Wolf tunnel is expected to be completed by 2018.
