Listen to this article

Prague Metro has opened an extension of its Line A metro – the first new metro line to open in the Czech capital in seven years.

Four new stations – Bořislavka, Nadrazi Veleslavín, Petřiny and Nemocnice Motol – have now come into passenger service following a three-week trial operation.

Work began on the extension in 2010. The line will eventually extend further to Prague’s Václav Havel Airport.

Prague’s public transport operator has said the cost of the 6.1-kilometre extension won’t exceed CZK 20 billion (€732 million).

Opening the extension on April 6, Prague’s mayor, Adriana Krnáčová, said “four beautiful station will again benefit the transport in the capital”.
