Italy’s private high-speed rail operator Nuovo Trasporto Viaggiatori (NTV) has been given permission to operate services from the capital’s main Roma Termini railway station.
Until now, Rome’s central station has solely been used by Trenitalia, a subsidiary of state-owned Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane, while NTV’s Italo trains have had to use Tiburtina and Ostiense – both of which are on the outskirts of the city.
The open-access operator launched its high-speed rail service in 2012.
NTV runs a fleet of 25 Alstom AGV trains, connecting nine cities around the country.
