‘Muffled’ rail announcements to get professional help

Listen to this article

Rail staff in Australia are to be given lessons in radio broadcasting to put an end to muffled announcements on trains and station platforms around the country.

The training will cover enunciation, scripting, delivery and microphone techniques.

More than 300 staff on the Illawarra Line will take part in the pilot scheme which was launched by Transport Gladys Berejiklian earlier this week.

Ms Berejiklian said: “Customers have made it clear that quality train and station announcements will make a real difference to their journey.

“Many of our staff do a good job, but for others, I want to make sure they are delivering the level of service customers want – that includes providing clear, easy-to-understand, accurate information.

“We are working to Fix the Trains on a number of fronts – we have a serious reform program underway to improve customer service and create two new organisations – Sydney Trains and NSW Trains.

“We will continue to deliver the improvements that make a difference to our everyday customers.”
