Mexico’s Secretariat of Communications and Transportation is preparing to re-run the competition to build a a 210-kilometre high-speed railway between Mexico City and Queretaro.
The original tender was scrapped in November shortly after the contract was awarded over concerns about the legitimacy of the competition.
The Mexican government has said the new tender for the 50.82 billion peso (€3 billion) turnkey project would be similar to the original and will run for 180 days.
To ensure transparency, a ‘social witness’ has been appointed to oversee the bidding process.
The contract includes the construction and maintenance of the route, and supply of the new high-speed rolling stock.
Mexico City-Queretaro is phase one of the route. In the future, officials hope to extend the line to Bajío, Guadalajara and the north of the country.
