LEO Express records smaller losses in 2014

Listen to this article

Czech open access operator LEO Express has recorded improved results in the first half of 2014.

The operator recorded consolidated losses of CZK 63.6 million in the first six months of 2014 compared to a CZK 86.6 million loss in 2013.

LEO Express did, however, record an operating profit of CZK 4.4 million – a substantial improvement on the CZK 24.2 million loss in 2013.

The private operator is continuing to record a loss on the Prague-Ostrava route due to intense competition with state-owned operator České dráhy (ČD). The only profitable corridor for LEO Express is between Prague and Moravia, but the company plans to take on additional routes in the Czech Republic and expand into Slovakia, Poland and other parts of Europe.
