German rail passengers told to beware exploding ticket machines

Listen to this article

Deutsche Bahn (DB) has warned passengers to be wary of exploding ticket machines.

The announcement follows reports from police in the country’s Hesse region of criminals filling sealed machines with gas to cause an explosion.

Officers said they had been called to a number of incidents over the last few months and that there is now a danger that there may be gas trapped inside unexploded vending machines.

DB has told passengers to be on the lookout for any ticket machines where the openings have been sealed.
