Freightliner PL acquires dual-mode locomotives

Freightliner’s Polish subsidiary has ordered five electric Dragon locomotives from Newag in a deal worth €17.5 million.

The 5MW locomotives, which are being financed by ING Lease, will be dual mode and feature a 520kW diesel engines which will be employed on non-electrified lines and sidings.

Freightliner PL was established in 2007 and operates a fleet of Class 66 locomotives.

The first three new six-axle locomotives will be delivered in May 2016, with two more expected by the end of July 2016.
