First of new B-series trains under test in Perth

Listen to this article

Western Australia’s Transport Minister, Troy Buswell, has inspected the first of a fleet of 22 new trains being delivered to Perth over the coming months.

The new three-car B-series trains will be distributed across the city’s Joondalup and Mandurah lines after undergoing testing and commissioning at Transperth’s Nowergup depot.

More than $240 million has been spent procuring the new rolling stock which will help boost capacity on the increasingly busy network.

Transport Minister Buswell said: “This is a significant day for public transport users.

“The arrival of this train means that it will be on the system, carrying passengers and moving more people more efficiently before the end of the year.”

Before starting service, each new train will need to undergo a bogie overhaul to operate on the narrow gauge track of the Transperth network.
