Open access rail freight operator Fennia Rail has ordered three type 774.7F diesel locomotives from CZ Loko which will allow it to start services from next year.
The Finnish operator, which was established in 2009, has said the Caterpillar engines in the new six-axle units will make them the least polluting locomotives in the country.
The 1550kW locomotives, which will have a diesel-electric (AC/DC) transmission, are scheduled to be delivered next autumn.
Kimmo Rahkamo, chief executive of Fennia Rail, said: “The long uncertainty of the availability of railway rolling stock suited for Finnish conditions has come to an end. Our Czech partner has built locomotives for 160 years and has experience in building those for different climate conditions and track gauges. With these locomotives we can start freight transport on the Finnish railways in 2015.”
