Design contracts have been awarded for a planned 205-kilometre orbital rail network in Paris.
Two consortia led by EGIS Rail have been awarded contracts by the Société du Grand Paris to design and manage works on two of four new lines which will make up the new automated system.
By 2030, Paris should have four brand new metro lines (15, 16, 17 and 18) plus extensions to lines 11 and 14. The new orbital network will allow passengers to travel between Parisian suburbs without going through the city centre, significantly reducing existing journey times.
The engineering and architectural teams will develop plans for a 22-kilometre section of line 16 between Noisy-Champs and Le Bourget RER, including seven new stations, and a section between Le Bourget RER and Saint-Denis Pleyel on lines 16/17, and Mairie de Saint-Ouen, which will be connected to line 14 by the extension between Saint-Lazare and Olympics.
