Avenio tram goes into service in Munich

Listen to this article

The first Avenio tram has gone into revenue service on line 19 of Munich’s light rail network.

Number 2807 is the first Avenio tram to enter service anywhere in the world and the first of three vehicles to already have been delivered to Munich’s public transport operator, MVG.

Announcing the start of service, MVG chief executive Herbert King said the commissioning process had been delayed by some ‘necessary’ repairs.

Siemens is due to deliver five more trams to the city, each of which will need to be approved by the Technical Supervisory Authority (TAB).

Although the Avenio will initially be used exclusively on line 19, MVG is seeking permission to operate the new trams on lines 17, 20 and 21.
