The 57th and final CAF EMU has been delivered to Auckland, completing the city’s new electric train fleet.
The milestone was marked by Prime Minister John Key at Auckland Transport’s Wiri Train Depot.
Spanish manufacturer CAF has supplied 57 trains for the city. The first went into service in April 2014 on the Onehunga branch line.
The final three units arrived last week and are currently undergoing final testing prior to receiving certification.
Auckland Transport chairman Dr Lester Levy said: “In less than four years we have seen 57 three-car trains roll off the production line in Spain. They’re all here now and they’ve been delivered on time and on budget.”
Auckland Transport said it expects to reach full service capacity by 2016.
