Accommodating agriculture

Three bridges on the Settle-Carlisle railway have been rebuilt at a cost of £1 million. All allow farmers access to their land on either side of the line. The existing structures were life-expired and have been replaced with concrete deck units. New drainage was also installed. The majority of the work was carried out over successive weekends in November and December but the project at Hungriggs, south of Armathwaite, was completed over the Christmas period.
