National Express train operator c2c has won the ‘Best Business in the Community’ award at the Essex Countywide Business Awards 2011 in recognition of the positive contribution it makes to the community it serves in London and South Essex.

c2c has been the best performing train operator in the UK for punctuality for February, March and April 2011. c2c also holds the UK records for the highest annual punctuality by a franchised train operator at 96.7% and the record for any 4 week period at 98.8%.

Customer satisfaction with c2c services, measured in the National Passenger Survey in both spring and autumn 2010 was 91%. However, c2c not only strives to provide the best service possible, but also seeks to be active in the community it serves.

Julian Drury Managing Director of c2c said:

“I am proud of the c2c team who are not only continuously striving to provide high levels of train service punctuality and customer service, but also to find ways in which they can help the local community. Over recent years c2c staff have helped a range of charities and community groups in the area we serve and this award is a fitting tribute to their efforts.”

c2c staff have helped their local community in a number of ways including:

  • Organising special events to raise funds for charity,
  • Taken part in fundraising events such as the London Marathon and the London to Southend bike ride,
  • Donated old, unclaimed lost property to charity,
  • Organised special event trains for children and community groups,
  • Worked with PCSO’S and local schools on safety around the railway,
  • Organised work experience for local youngsters,

Over the last couple of years c2c employees have also been supported in their voluntary work by the National Express Employee Charity Panel. The panel is made up of employees from around the National Express business, who meet quarterly to decide which good causes they will support.

The Essex Countywide Business Awards 2011 were held at Cliffs Pavilion, Southend on Friday 20th May.
