FCC launch priority seating card for rail travel

Listen to this article

Rail passengers who have difficulty standing will find travel with First Capital Connect easier thanks to the launch of a priority seating card.

All First Capital Connect trains have designated priority seats that should be given up if they are needed by people with disabilities, mums-to-be, elderly passengers or those carrying infants.

However, FCC say that  someone’s need to sit down may not be immediately obvious and not everyone is comfortable with asking other passengers to give up their seat and explaining why this is necessary.

Customer Service Director Michelle Smart said:

“We know that someone’s need for a seat is not always obvious and not everyone feels happy about explaining why they need to sit down.

“Our new cards make that request for a priority seat that much easier and – for some – less embarrassing. They will be a real benefit to people in genuine need.”

Passengers should apply for the new priority seating card via the website.
