Nottingham station could benefit from HS2

Listen to this article

This is Nottingham is reporting that high speed trains could go directly into Nottingham city centre as part of the Government’s proposed HS2 project.

Proposals to include Nottingham in the high speed rail link have been considered by Ministers, the article claims. Ministers have said that ‘they want a station in the East Midlands as part of the £32 billion plan to build a 250mph national rail network.’

The Department for Transport are said to be drawing up plans to include Nottingham station as a main station for the rail link, with others being named as London, Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds.

The article reports that the trains would not travel through cities at high speeds, but ‘they would be 400m long and carry 1,100 passengers each.’

It is thought that East Midlands Parkway could also be a station being considered by Ministers for a high speed rail station.

Nottingham station is currently undergoing a refurbishment that is set to last until 2014.

  1. In relation to suggested extra stations I would suggest an extra station in the Oxford Milton Keynes Aylesbury area to give some benefit to the population of the Chiltern Milton Keynes area as the high speEd link passes through that area and would give the general population belt of the Chilterns the feeling that they will experienced some personal benefit from the the high speed two project
