AB Transitio orders Stadler EMUs

Swedish leasing company AB Transitio has ordered 33 regional Stadler KISS EMUs for Mälardalen regional rail services.

AB Transitio has procured the vehicles for Mälardalen – a joint body established between SJ and local authorities in Stockholm, Södermanland, Örebro and Västmanland to manage regional rail services.

The order with Stadler has been valued at SEK 3.5 billion (€380 million).

New trains are required to operated an expanded regional rail service around Stockholm following the opening of the City Line in 2017.

The KISS EMUs will have a maximum speed of 200 km/h and will be capable of running in multiple operation up to four trains.

The new units will be used on several routes: Orebro-Eskilstuna-Stockholm-Uppsala, Hallsberg-Katrineholm-Stockholm, Norrkoping-Nykoping-Stockholm and Sala-Västerås-Eskilstuna-Katrineholm-Linkoping.
