400,000 people expected to travel by train for Royal Wedding

Up to 400,000 people are expected to travel by train into central London on the day of the Royal Wedding, according to estimates by the Association of Train Operating Companies (ATOC).

Bank Holidays are always quieter on the railways, without commuters and business people using the network.

However, train operating companies are expecting a surge in passengers.

First Hull Trains is expecting a rise in passengers of up to 15% when compared to a normal bank holiday Friday, as interest around the Royal Wedding continues to mount.

David Townsend, First Hull Trains’ Sales and Marketing Manager, said:

“With so much interest and anticipation surrounding the Royal Wedding, hundreds of thousands of people are expected to make their way to London to join in the festivities. For our part, we will be working hard to get everyone to and from the capital quickly, easily and in comfort so that they can enjoy the big day.

“Network Rail has also informed us that wherever possible, they have moved work to ensure that all the key routes into London are open and work free for the Royal Wedding.”
