TfL should ‘re-think’ Olympia closure, says watchdog

London TravelWatch has urged Transport for London (TfL) to rethink plans to close Kensington Olympia underground station in the week, and to ‘consult people properly’ when big changes to services are planned.

Sharon Grant, Chair, London TravelWatch said:

“Although we recognise that the closing Kensington Olympia on Monday to Fridays could produce significant benefits to passengers on other parts of the District Line, we are very concerned about this closure and urge TfL to reconsider.”

Kensington Olympia is accessible for wheelchair users, and any alternative ‘step-free journey would involve long and inconvenient diversions’.

Sharon Grant continued: “We think the needs of people with mobility difficulties have not been properly addressed and that TfL need to look again at these proposals.

“We also question the wisdom of diverting people on to the already-crowded London Overground and Southern services at Kensington Olympia.

“Additionally, the lack of public consultation undertaken by TfL on what is a major change to passenger services is unacceptable.”
