Three Peaks Challenge by Rail raises £180,000

Listen to this article

Another triumphant Three Peaks Challenge by Rail took place in near perfect conditions raising over £180,000 for the Railway Children charity.

A total of 192 walkers, supported by 30 volunteers, took part in the annual event – the only one of its kind to complete the whole trip by train.

Setting off on a specially chartered train from Euston station, the event saw the Three Peakers tackling the three highest mountains in Britain – Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis.

Fair weather and no rain created perfect conditions for walking, helping the majority of walkers successfully reach the summits of all three peaks. Continually supported by generous friends and sponsors, the challenge was yet again a great success.

Says Railway Children Events Manager, Katie Mason; “Well done to all the fantastic people who took part in this event. Despite the recession, everyone has worked so hard to ensure they raised their sponsorship money that is so vital to the charity.

“And our heartfelt thanks to the individuals and the companies who worked so hard to make sure we had another amazing event. Their effort and energy will make such a difference to the children we help.”

Leona Wilson from Network Rail said, “This was our first Three Peaks Challenge but I don’t think I would ever consider doing it any other way.”

Next year sees the special 10th Anniversary Three Peak Challenge in June 2012.
