Russian Railways has just launched its second Aeroexpress service this year.
Vladivostock’s Knevichy airport link was unveiled on July 20 to provide a 34km rail journey between the airport and a new dedicated terminal at Vladivostok’s railway station. This follows the opening of a new link to Sochi airport in February.
The new link includes a new 4km spur terminating at the new elevated airport terminal and significant enhancements to the existing infrastructure with its three intermediate stations.
The cost of the line stands at £160 million.
Trains currently run every two hours and will be hourly from September 1, with a 48 minute journey time.
Construction of the line is part of a plan to both develop the region and prepare for Vladivostock’s hosting of the APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) Summit in September this year – which will feature 21 pacific rim countries whose members account for 54 per cent of world trade.
Also part of this plan is the construction of the world’s longest cable stayed bridge. It is claimed that when this opens in August, Vladivostock will rival San Francisco.
