Work halted after remains found on Nottingham tram site

Listen to this article

Work was suspended on the site of tram works in Nottingham after human remains were discovered by contractors Taylor Woodrow.

Police cordoned off the site in Poplars Court, Lenton Lane, following the excavation of two skulls on March 4 during work on the NET Phase Two extension of Nottingham’s tram network.

Tests carried out by a forensic anthropologist confirmed that the remains were over 70 years old and Nottinghamshire Police has said it is not treating the find as suspicious.

The bones are believed to be from a nearby church burial ground.

A spokesman for Taylor Woodrow Alstom said: “Construction work in the area has since resumed, although the actual site of the discovery remains cordoned off while further archaeological investigations continue.”
