Transport leaders in Paris have chosen their favourite design for a new viaduct which will become part of a planned extension of the city’s metro system.

The winning design by Marc Mimram will span a 580-metre section of the line 11 extension, crossing the municipalities of Noisy-le-Sec and Rosny-sous-Bois.

Transport agencies RATP and STIF are hoping to open the 6-kilometre extension, which will take Line 11 east from the current terminus station Mairie des Lilas to Rosny-sous-Bois where it will connect to regional RER services, by 2019.

Announcing the winner of the design competition, STIF said the new “fluid, sleek and stylish” structure was a ‘reinterpretation’ of the archetypal early 20th century viaduct.
