The 5 July opening of MRT Dingpu station marks the completion of the new Tucheng extension to Taipei’s Bannan Line.

Connecting the Dingpu Hi-tech Industrial Park and Nangang Software Park, the new extension brings the number of Bannan Line stations to 23.
he Mayor of Taiwan’s capital, Ko Wen-je, commented that the construction of the MRT (Metro Rapid Transit or, more correctly, the Teipei Rapid Transit System) is part of the development of the city’s basic infrastructure, connecting the day-to-day living environment of Taipei and New Taipei.
Ko also announced that plans are underway for the development of three more MRT lines.
Despite praising the quality of construction, the mayor voiced his concern that the time between planning and completion had been too long, taking over a decade. He hoped that in the future, construction time could be reduced while maintaining quality.
