Two linocut prints of the London Underground by artist Cyril Edward Power have sold at auction for £158,000.

Whence and Whither? and Tube Station made £97,250 and £61,250 respectively at Bonhams Print sale yesterday (April 16).

Both pieces date back to the 1930s and depict scenes from London’s world famous underground metro network.

Whence and Whither? exceeded its estimation of £30,000 to £50,000.

Rupert, head of prints, said: “I’m delighted with today’s result with 89 per cent sale by value which is a clear indicator of the ongoing strength of the print market and specifically the increasing popularity of the Grosvenor school artists.”
