Valencia’s 20-year-old Siemens-Düwag UT-3800 trams are returning to service following a €8 million overhaul.

As well as having mechanical components upgraded, the vehicles, which were launched in 1994 with the opening of the Line 4 tramway, have been fitted with new passenger information and CCTV systems.

Each of the 25 original trams are also having their interiors refreshed and their old livery replaced by Metrovalencia’s red and white colours.

The upgrade, which is expected to be completed in 2018, will extend the fleet’s life by more than 10 years, according to Metrovalencia.
