The rail line between Adler and Sochi Airport will be operational early this year, Russian Railways has said.

The line, built with the 2014 Winter Olympics in mind, will have cost R9.8 billion once completed.

The 2.8km line consists of two tunnels and three railway overpass trestles.

It is estimated that 60% of passengers who fly into Sochi Airport during the Games in Sochi will use the line.
