Serbian Railways certified to run FLIRT EMUs

Listen to this article

Serbia’s Directorate for Railways has certified Stadler’s FLIRT3 EMUs to operate on the country’s national rail network.

Serbian Railways has ordered 21 four-car FLIRT3 units from Stadler, financed by a €99 million loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), to operate on electrified regional and suburban routes.

The first 160 km/h trains are set to go into passenger service later this month on the Belgrade – Novi Sad – Subotica corridor.

Stadler has delivered 15 units so far. The final six trains are expected to arrive by the end of August.

The EMUs will eventually operate across a number of other electrified routes: Belgrade – Uzice – Prijepolje, Belgrade – Kraljevo, Belgrade – Sid and Belgrade – Nis – Presevo.
