Modernisation of Austria’s Schladming station has been completed in time for the Alpine Ski World Cup.

As well as the new barrier-free station, the track and signals have all been renewed.

Tens of thousands of spectators will use to station next month when the 2013 World Championships arrives on Planai.

“Today is a very special day for us,” said chief executive of ÖBB Christian Kern.

“Just in time for the Alpine World Ski Championships 2013, we pass the new station as a modern and fully accessible entrance.”

ÖBB started renovation work at the station in April 2011.

Infrastructure Minister Doris Bures said: “After only one-and-a-half years of construction, we are facing an attractive and efficient train station.”
