Russian Railways has signed an agreement with Vietnamese Railways and An Vien to jointly design and build new rail infrastructure in the country.
The Vietnamese government wants to develop the country’s ageing railways and this deal goes a long way to assuring the construction and operation of a new railway line in South Vietnam.
Vietnam’s North-South rail line opened in 1936 between the cities of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Plans to upgrade the infrastructure to support high-speed services were proposed an subsequently rejected by officials.
This latest agreement was signed on March 11 by Vladimir Yakunin, president of Russian Railways, Dat Nguyen Tyong, chief executive of Vietnam Railways, and Pham Nhat Vu, chairman of the board of directors at An Vien.
