Russia celebrates 175 years of rail

Russia has marked the 175th birthday of the country’s railway with a reconstruction of the very first train journey at Vitebsky railway station.

On October 30, 1837, the very first public rail line between St Petersburg and Tsarskoye Selo was inaugurated.

President of Russian Railways Vladimir Yakunin attended a reception in Moscow yesterday (October 30) to celebrate the milestone.
