Network Rail re-opened all four rail lines in Princes Street Gardens at approx 0430 hrs this morning – closed overnight to allow removal of a derailed train.
This was earlier than previously advised but welcome as it means that – with a few early morning exceptions – services are able to revert to the normal timetable.
A ScotRail spokeswoman said: “We are pleased to be able to fully re-open all four affected rail lines a day earlier than originally advised.
“As a result most services are planned to run normally today.”
At 17:55 on Wednesday an out-of-service ScotRail train became derailed on approach to Edinburgh Waverley station.
The front bogey (set of wheels) on the rear train unit left the rail as a result of the incident. The train was carrying no passengers and two crew, neither of whom was injured.
