Rail line to be ‘renewed’ in Senegal, Western Africa

According to Senegal Press Agency (APS), the state of Senegal is to renew its railway network between Dakara and Thies (the country’s second largest urban area) by 2014.

The work will be financed by the World Bank, the West African Development Bank (WADB) and the Senegalese government at a cost of 8.145 billion CFA francs (€12.4 million).

A second railway line, linking Dakar to Bamako, is also set to be the focus of renovation work.

Senegal has over 900 km of railway.
