ProRail to cut charges for lightweight trains

Listen to this article

ProRail has been ordered to reduce track access charges for operators running lightweight rolling stock.

The ruling by the Authority for Consumers and Market (ACM) follows a complaint by Arriva, Connexxion and Veolia Syntus.

ProRail will now have to reassess its tariffs to reflect the additional damage and wear caused by heavier trains. Currently trains of 120 tonnes and 160 tonnes pay the same.
