A couple who run the Station Café at Prestwick Town have been shortlisted for a prestigious national award.

Lorraine and Hugh McEvoy have been named as finalists in the Best Station/Train Retail Outlet category at the Community Rail Awards.

The cafe offers delights such as poached eggs, French toast, beef olives and Guinness muffins.

It has proved so popular that people even leave their flasks on the premises to be filled each morning before they travel.

Lorraine and Hugh also look after floral displays at the station under ScotRail’s Adopt a Station scheme which aims to put stations at the heart of their communities.

Lorraine said: “We are delighted to have been reached the final. But it is all about helping people, especially at busy times of the day.”

John Yellowlees, ScotRail’s external relations manager said:

“Lorraine and Hugh’s tenancy has already proved to be a real winner.”

The Community Rail Awards take place in Sheffield on 23 September.
