PORR has been awarded three contracts worth €68 million to complete structural works on the above-ground section of Vienna’s U1 extension.

The contractor has been awarded construction lots for the future Neulaa and Oberlaa stations on the final section of a 4.6-kilometre southern extension of the city’s U-Bahn network.

Set for completion in 2017, the latest series of contacts include the installation of a shunting system and signal box, two new depots and a series of bridges and underpasses along the surface section of the route, which runs alongside line 67 of Vienna’s tram network.

At 19.2 kilometres, U1 will become Vienna’s longest metro line once the extension is finished in three years time.

Chief executive of PORR Karl-Heinz Strauss said the he was ‘particularly pleased’ to have won a series of high-profile contracts in PORR’s domestic market.
