Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) has ordered nine additional Railjet trainsets to operate new services across Austria, Germany, Hungary and Switzerland.

The €145 million order will add a further nine seven-car trains to OBB’s current fleet of 51 Railjets.

The new trainsets will be assembled in Vienna and delivered by December 2016. The trains will initially go into passenger service between Vienna and Salzburg, but Siemens said the units would also be designed to operate in Italy so they could be deployed on the route to Venice.
