Norway is to invest NOK 7 billion (€809 million) in upgrading its signalling system over the next 10 years.
Jernbaneverket identified the installation of ERTMS as a key priority for the rail network in a new document setting out how the infrastructure manager will deliver efficiencies sought by the Norwegian parliament between now and 2023.
Last month, Jernbaneverket announced that it was to begin testing ERTMS on the Østfold Eastern line. Trial runs of the in-cab signalling system will begin in November between Rakkestad and Sarpsborg.
The plan also sets operational targets which seek reduced line closures, fewer cancelled trains and increased capacity on urban commuter services.
To identify other ways in which it would be improving services across the country, Jernbaneverket has highlighted projects including the NOK 130 billion (€16 billion) InterCity programme and the Follo Line which it aims to start in the next few years.
