The first phase of Beijing’s newest metro line has opened to passengers.

Line 14 is MTR Corporation’s third metro project in Beijing. The Hong Kong company already operates Beijing Metro Line 4 and the Daxing Line extension.

The 12.4-kilometre section of the new line includes seven stations from Zhangguozhuang Station to Xiju Station in the southwestern part of Beijing.

The new line, which opened on May 5, will be operated by Beijing MTR Corporation Limited (Beijing MTR) – a joint venture between MTR Corporation, Beijing Capital Group Limited and Beijing Infrastructure Investment Corporation Limited – for the next 30 years.

“This is another major milestone for the corporation’s growth in the mainland,” said Jay Walder, chief executive officer of MTR Corporation.

“It is also our honour to continue to be part of the rapid development of the capital city by contributing our expertise and commitment to serve commuters in Beijing by providing safe, convenient and quality metro service.”

When completed in 2016, the 37-station Beijing Metro Line 14 will stretch from Zhangguozhuang Station to Shangezhuang Station in the eastern Chaoyang District.
