Mitsubishi set to deliver lightweight Tokyo peoplemover

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries has completed the first of its lightweight 330 series peoplemover trains for Tokyo’s Nippori-Toneri Liner.

Each car of the new five-car train, which goes into service in October, is 1.5 tonnes lighter than those that make up the system’s current fleet thanks to their double skin aluminium structure.

The train also features lightweight “T-smover” bogies which, Mitsubishi says, are quieter and easier to maintain than those on the existing vehicles.

The new cars also include “long seats” designed for greater capacity.

Operated by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, the Nippori-Toneri Liner is an automated guideway transit (AGT) system which connects Nippori Station in Arakawa-ku and Minumadai-shinsuikoen Station in Adachi-ku.
